La La Land

I went to LA for work this week. I've been to LA several times for work before and I never actually got to do anything besides work, so I was determined to do it this time. The only problem was that I had Teams witness interviews all week that started at like 3 AM Pacific time because of the time zone difference. Oh, and the final deadline for a massive project I've been working on for four months was also this week. So yeah, not the most conducive to hanging out at Santa Monica Pier or anything. But the conference I was recruiting at was actually at a hotel right on Hollywood Boulevard, so I did have the pleasure of staying right in the midst of the Walk of Fame. And because I love being harassed by costumed characters and crashing into tourists standing in line for mediocre pizza, this was absolutely perfect. I also got screamed at by a shirtless homeless man who called me Satan (how did he know?) and reprimanded by the CVS clerk for not understanding that all of the shopping bags had been sequestered to avoid theft. Bright lights and big city, what can I tell you?

Two In a Row!

This post is for the purpose of making a post and thereby doing about the minimum that can be expected of a blogger for two weeks in a row. Having accomplished that purpose with just that first sentence, I could sign off and go have a Zima or something, but I've got a truly generous heart, so I'll keep going.

It continues to be busy! I've got a huge project at work right now that I've literally spent most of my weekend on, when everyone knows that weekends are for eating Tex Mex and trying to remember what you used to watch on Netflix. I did make a trip to Best Buy (!) earlier today to buy a landline cable (!!) in a fruitless attempt to get our front intercom working (!!!), but one can't expect that kind of extravagant enjoyment from every aspect of one's life.

I also went to my friend's disco-themed event at a bar on Friday. That was a huge deal for me because it did not even start until 9 PM! Normally 10 PM (when Murder, She Wrote comes on) is bedtime. So I drank too much and may be common law married to a colorful bartender in a tube top. But my Uber receipt proved I was out until 1:45 AM! In truth, I regret everything.

One Month Later...

I kind of forgot I had a blog again. I mean, it did occur to me occasionally, but it was usually when I was driving somewhere or on the treadmill or in the middle of the grocery store or something, so not at optimal times to post. Today, America's Birthday (not Ferrera), turned out to be optimal, I guess? We're not doing anything other than counseling the dogs through their increasing terror of fireworks, so I have a hot sec.

It's been a busy time! We went under contract on our old place, closed on the new place, and moved about a week and a half ago. Since then we've kind of been lifting things and cleaning things and forgetting where we put things full time. I forgot how much work this is! I would say the last box is now unpacked, but that's kind of not true because I have a box of miscellaneous things I didn't know what to do with that I just shoved into a closet upstairs. But we've got art on the walls, groceries in the fridge, and we had our first guests other than movers and maintenance guys last night. So we've made progress.

The new place is great, as we pretty much knew it would be. Lots more space, huge kitchen, great decks for entertaining. Our plan is to fill it slowly so we buy furniture we actually like as opposed to just whatever we see when we feel a desperate need for an ottoman. So it is a little weird to have a third floor with practically nothing in it, other than the wine fridge and a bunch of bar paraphernalia, but hey, at least that leaves room for that miscellaneous box. I'm definitely going to want that Good Morning America baseball signed by Diane Sawyer some day, right?
